ABOUT

As students throughout the community are looking for scholarships to aid them in covering the expenses of their future, the McKay National Honor Society is attempting to serve our school’s community by creating a scholarship exclusively for current McKay High School students.

 

• Purpose: school-wide scholarship for McKay students 

• Community service oriented scholarship rather than GPA based

• Scholarship amount: 

  • 1 winner: $1,000

  • 2 winners: $500

 

*Total amount given: $2,000

ELIGIBILITY

• Must be a current Mckay Student 

  • (class of 2021 early graduates accepted) 

• Service oriented individual (can be Salem community, school community, family, etc. ANY service towards a community the applicant cares about)

• GPA is NOT a factor of decision 

• Must show a passionate, driven, caring nature

* Closer consideration for those that have witnessed/experienced an obstacle,

but overcame it through community service

or are notably involved in McKay's community.

APPLICATION 

As opposed to a typical scholarship application, a transcript and test scores are not needed. Instead, you will have the option to write a 1500 character essay OR submit a 1-2 minute video as your application. You may also upload an optional letter of recommendation from a teacher. 

In your application, you will be prompted to answer and elaborate upon the following questions:

 

• What are you passionate about/What are your plans after graduating high school?

• How have you served your community or the people you care about during your time as a McKay Royal Scot, and how does this relate to your passion/post-graduation plan?

• Why do you deserve this scholarship/how do you plan on using this scholarship if won?

    

* Tip: Speak candidly, be specific, and have your materials prepared ahead of time, prior to submitting.

* Once again, ANY CURRENT MCKAY STUDENT IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY.

SUBMISSION REVIEW

    In an attempt to be unbiased, the reviewers of the submissions will not be anyone from McKay, including the NHS team. Instead, we are having various leaders of the community review the submitted applications.

DATES AND DEADLINES

• April 1st, 2021:      Application opens

• April 30th, 2021:   Submission Deadline

• May 1st:                  Submission reviewing

• June 7th, 2021:        Final decision/Announcement of all winners

• June 2021:              distribution
