Frequently Asked Questions

Your Questions, Answered

How do I join the NHS meetings?

Typically, during a normal school year, NHS members would meet before school, biweekly on Mondays in the Advisor's classroom (with accommodations during breaks.)
During social-distancing restrictions, however, we have been meeting online through Zoom. The link to these meetings can be found through our google classroom which is exclusively available for members and anticipated guests only.

How do I become an NHS member?

In order to become an NHS member, you must be invited to join by the Advisor. Invitations are typically sent to eligible members during the Spring prior to their junior year of high school. (In other words, invitations to join are sent at the end of 10th grade.)

How often does McKay NHS meet?

Typical meetings are biweekly (every other week) on designated days, typically a Monday. Meetings usually last about 30-50 minutes.

How can I become a member if I wasn't invited?

If you are interested in joining NHS despite not being invited, you can email the Advisor to notify them about your interest and eligibility. From there, the Advisor will decide future outcomes.

What if I miss meetings?

Attendance is taken during meetings and is managed by the Advisor. With a certain amount of absences, you, as a member, may be asked to leave NHS. However, leniency depends on your ability to communicate with the Advisor.

What is the point of NHS?

While it is an honorary title, NHS also provides many opportunities to earn volunteer hours while also curating a network with various community members and more. Essentially, it is as useful as you make it.

How do I apply for the McKay NHS Scholarship?
